Day 9: Repentence

Jesus called His followers to repent, but what does that mean?

Repentance is more than just confessing our sin or feeling guilty.  We can be sorry for the consequences of our actions, but still not have a true desire to please God. Genuine repentance is about changing our mind, moving away from the thinking that leads us into sin and moving toward thinking that leads us into righteousness.

We have been given victory over sin and we are enabled to live righteously, not by our own strength, but by the power of the Holy Spirit.  Repentance is an incredible gift that God has given!  We all fall short on a daily basis therefore repentance must become a way of life as we commit to live to glorify God.

What is it that you need to repent of?  Repent, and be encouraged that our God is gentle to those that have a repentant heart.

Scriptures

2 Peter 3:9 ESV
The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.

1 John 1:9 ESV
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

2 Chronicles 7:14
If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
