Day 12: Love

We use the word “love” all the time!  We love people, we love the mountains, we love sleeping in, we love a good dinner.  But when we say the word “love” do we really understand what it means?

In 1 John 4:8 it says, “Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.”  God doesn’t just show us love. God is love. Without Him, there is no love. God’s love changes us.

In Mark 12:30-31, Jesus says, “And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”  The greatest command is to love!  Thankfully we have the perfect example in what this looks like in the life of Jesus.

As Christ followers, our love for others is a reflection of who God is and that we know His love. Let’s not hold back our love for God and let’s be diligent to love people the way that God loves us…even the most difficult ones!

Scriptures

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 ESV
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.

Mark 12:30-31 ESV
“And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
