Day 16: Persistence

When we click “buy” on our Amazon app, we expect our purchase to arrive in 2 days.  We want things fast, and we want it to be convenient.  If we’re not careful, we can take these same expectations into our relationship with God – expecting God to answer our prayers the way we want Him to and in our timing.  God has made it clear that He moves in and through our prayer life, but His ways are not our own.

Jesus gave us some great insight in how we should approach Him in prayer in Matthew 7:7-8“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.”

Jesus promised that if we ask, we will receive.  But when we ask, we don’t expect that we’ll have to wait or that God is working good through the process.  But we can rest assured, even when we don’t see the answer in our timing, we can be confident that God will answer!

Scriptures

Matthew 7:7-8 ESV
"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.”

Matthew 6:33 ESV
"But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you."

Romans 8:32 ESV
He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?
